all over the place...

I need to stop going weeks between posts, each titled 'weekend recap' or something similarly inane... But really, I just feel like we haven't had that much interesting to write about lately...

Friday, I was in a funk, grumpy about everything and nothing in general. I had spent nearly the whole workday researching rental cottages/cabins for our fall getaway, which has never seemed to be so difficult to plan. Having to wrangle around our self-made problem of accommodating the dogs, keeping relatively near to where we are, and finding a place we can all agree on (and afford) has just been... yeah. We've come along way from the Red Roof Inn, that's for sure.

Saturday, I was totally jived to go to the Kane County Flea Market, except it was cold, rainy and overall gray the entire day. We went, had polish sausage and a funnel cake... and poked for a few hours around the booths. Some of it made me want to redecorate my entire house, some made me want to quit my job and take up dumpster-diving and furniture refurbishment (as many pieces we saw, I'm sure were... and were selling for a pretty penny.) And, it definitely made me want to not buy everything I own at Homegoods. Old things are nice sometimes. So hopefully I'll be able to go-- it's the first Sunday (and previous Saturday) of each month. It's totally country-meets-Chicago Suburbs, which I LOVE... seeing hard-core flea folk out in their tennies/ponchos/fanny packs... next to women teetering around in their espadrilles, hovering over way-too-expensive refinished furniture.

Sunday- Jed took me for a SURPRISE! to the Phillips Park and Zoo in Aurora! Yay! Last summer's Surprise was to the Lamplight Horsefarm in beautiful Wayne, where we watched a jumping competition. Phillips park has a little zoo that features among other animals, 2 cougars, a small herd of elk, otters, wolves, assorted reptiles and a llama... And the most ADORABLE hens/roosters I have ever seen. I'm so mad the camera ran out of batteries... Here's a link of one similar...

Anyway- it was free, fun, and quick. And then we were onto a birthday afternoon at Jed's family's house...and just like that: Sunday is over. Weekend over. Back to a whole week of work... Sigh...
