I'm on a schedule of Mon/Thurs: legs and run, Tues/Friday: arms and run, Wed: rest. So, I moseyed into the gym this week and hit the leg machines-- only to discover, happily, that my legs are actually stronger from walking the 267% inclined roads in France, not to mention the balancing action necessary on unevenly-laid 2,000 year-old cobblestones and castle walls. So, legs: excellent shape. I even noticed a bit of toning action near the end of the trip, so I'm definitely happy with that. Nothing like coming back from a vacation where you eat a croissant for breakfast, a pain au chocolat for lunch, and a half bottle of wine for dinner every day and actually losing weight.
So legs-- good. But arms?? HOLY MOTHER OF GOD: I have 7 machines to do, in succession-- some of which, I'll have you know-- I am only lifting THE BAR, people-- not any weight, not 10 lbs... THE FREAKING BAR. And I can't even get to up to a count of 15 (I have a goal of 3 sets of those.) Now, I've never been the one in gym class able to climb the rope, and I've never done a pull-up in my life, but to lift a metal bar up a mere 45 times, you'd think I was trying to lift a cruise ship anchored to the bottom of the ocean, it was that hard. I just died around 9 or 10 of each set, and I couldn't feel my arms. Hm. Practice makes perfect, and I most definitely need practice.
My next session is on Friday, and thank god it's leg day.
I don't mean to laugh, but
ReplyDeleteyou SOOOOOOO remind me of
myself at a young age. I NEVER
could do the arm things-the rope,
a pull-up, the arm hang in gym
class. But I could do all the
leg stuff......keep trying, Lys.
