What a great weekend... I took off work Friday to clean, prepare for the big weekend... my old friend Melissa flew in, and we drove down to the HHS 10-year High School Reunion. Wow. 10 years. A whole DECADE...
I think, for some, the REUNION gets built up to this huge personal thing, where you have to prove that you've GOTTEN somewhere, ARE something, and of course, look great.
I guess perhaps there was a bit of that, but it just seemed so much more normal, which was so refreshing. Before the event, my main concern was trying to figure out what to wear at a bar that only served Miller and Bud products in a town with not even one stoplight. But jeans, orange shoes, and a brown top seemed to fit right in... and astonishingly, most anything did. From girls in sequined tops to casual dresses to the guy who sported a oversized t-shirt reading "I shaved by balls for this?" just fit perfectly....which was such a great relief. Small town, graduating class of around 100, ten years later hanging out a bar, and it just... WAS. The gossip was gone, the cliques dispersed. Teachers showed up, faculty were there, even the mother of a classmate who was killed several years ago was welcomed, hugged and honored during a photo montage of her son in High School. It was really touching.....
In the end, I couldn't have had a better time. The venue was so much better than I ever expected, the food was great (country school means fresh pork, straight from one of our Alumnus' farm) and just a great time to reconnect.
Now, I hope I just have more updates to share by the time the 20 year rolls around...
